CDD Overview - The Community Development Dept is a
section with the Thai Ministry of the Interior. It is responsible for
the health and well being of Thai citizens. It was decided in the mid-70s
under a National Economic Plan to do a comprehensive assessment of every
village in Thailand, in order to be able to target government resources
more effectively. To that end the headman in every village and local
CDD officials answer a series of questions concerning household characteristics,
education, health and sanitation, the environment, and other categories.
Ratings by categories are then assigned to each village. This results
in a village census and the CDD data.
The data are collected in 2 steps.
In the first step, members of the RDC fill in the questionaire by themselves
using the existing data from the Tambon office. After that, for each village,
a meeting with the village headman and village committee is held. The
missing information are then collected at that time.
