Background
To examine patterns of financing and investment, the Overseas Economic
Cooperation Fund (OECF, a Japanese governmental agency for foreign aid,
currently called JBIC) collected balance sheets and income statements
from the stock exchange and the registration at the Ministry of Commerce
in Thailand. They are interested in the largest firms, and the companies
listed in the stock exchange are not necessarily the largest ones in
Thailand. Hence they first identified the largest companies by using
"Financial Day 2000", and collected the data of those companies including
non-listed ones.
Coverage
The dataset contains standard financial
items in balance sheet and income statement for 900 largest manufacturing
companies in terms of total asset. The data is a panel starting from 1991
up to 1995, and the frequency is annual. There are some concerns regarding
the reliability of the data for non-listed companies, which is collected
from the registration at the ministry of commerce.
